JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Senior Estimator
REPORTS TO: Chief Estimator
POSITION SUMMARY: Estimators are responsible for assisting with the
development of budgets and proposals for commercial
construction projects.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Review plans for a potential project. Plan may be complete or very conceptual;
? Verify plans with existing site conditions;
? Accurately determine and list the scope of work for each trade required to complete the project;
? Prepare invitations to be to selected subcontractors to provide a bid for the project;
? Review plans and specifications for completeness, inconsistencies, and conflicts;
? Prepare Requests for Information (RFI’s) as required to the project consultants to obtain a thorough understanding of the project and the requirements to complete it;
? Coordinate the distribution of bid documents to subcontractors including any subsequent RFI’s, addendums, or other information;
? Prepare an estimate of quantities and a list of items to compare subcontractor proposals to assure the proposal is complete and qualified;
? Evaluate subcontractor proposals for consistency with the plans and specifications;
? Prepare the project budget;
? Prepare a comprehensive proposal of services containing inclusions, exclusions, clarifications and alternates;
? After award of the project, prepare a turnover package for Project Management and participate in the turnover meeting;
? Assist Project Management with follow-up requests for budgeting;
? Assist in the leadership of the department, filling in for the Chief Estimator as required;
? Act as a mentor for junior members of the department.
? Other duties and special projects as required.
In addition to the above each employee will be required to cross train for position(s) within the division organizational structure as required. Management reserves the right to change or add to the duties and responsibilities set forth herein at any time.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
? Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Construction Management, Building Construction, Architecture or Civil Engineering), and 20 years of position related experience;
? Demonstrates a solid understanding of processes and procedures and resolution of standard and non-standard issues;

? Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
? Advanced written and oral communications skills to present information in a concise and articulate manner;
? Strong leadership abilities, with the ability to coordinate work on multiple facets of a project;
? Proficient computer skills, with the ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), Microsoft Project, and On Screen Takeoff on an advanced basis;
? LEED certification a plus;
? BIM experience a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is primarily a sedentary office position which requires the ability to occasionally bend, stoop, reach, lift, move and carry office materials and supplies weighing 25 pounds or less.
Good vision and dexterity. Finger dexterity is required to operate a computer keyboard and calculator. This position will require travel to the job site and other locations. A valid California driver’s license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle is required.
