 General

Description:

Responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting close functions. Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate business result. Coordinate and prepare internal and external financial statements, and activities of external auditors.  Provide management with budget information and other information vital to the decision-making process. Assess current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes. Evaluate accounting and internal control systems. Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database as needed. Assist in the hiring, training, and retention of competent accounting staff.

Essential Duties:

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations
  • Preparation of documents supporting the annual tax return
  • Coordinate the preparation of annual tax return with outside CPA firm
  • Review and recordation of journal entries required to reflect the monthly activity
  • Preparation of documents supporting the monthly close process and month end balances
  • Review monthly accounting close process including analytical review of the monthly operating results to ensure accurate accounting records are maintained
  • Provide reporting to support management.
  • Preparation of monthly financial statements and related footnotes
  • Perform cash projections to effectively manage cash balances and maximize the return on any excess cash balances
  • Preparation of weekly non-union payroll utilizing ADP (60 employees)
  • Review monthly multi-union payroll fringes
  • Review quarterly payroll taxes.

Work

Experience:

5 to 10 years of accounting experience including supervision of employees. Minimum of five (5) years of job-related experience in the heavy civil construction industry. Knowledge of Union based payroll.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, (CPA), (MBA in accounting or finance)) or (CMA) a significant plus. Knowledge of GAAP.
