Position Summary:

Employees in this job install, maintain, repair and inspect mechanical equipment and electrical systems including maintenance of building facilities in all respects.


Maintenance Mechanics work on everything in the facility including, but not limited to grinders, lathes, CNC lathes, presses, cut off saws, stress and fatigue machines, parts washers, evaporator, drill presses, mills, plumbing, welding, hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, cylinders, regulators, fabrication, ducting, painting, cleaning, lubing, oiling and many more.

Daily Tasks: 

Repairs and maintains, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturer's specifications, machinery and mechanical equipment such as: engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment using handtools, power tools, and precision-measuring and testing instruments.  Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.  Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts using hoists, cranes, scissor lifts, forklifts, handtools, welding and power tools.  Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.  Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements, using rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.  Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments, using handtools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.  Repairs or replaces defective parts, using handtools and power tools, etc.  Installs special functional and structural parts in devices, using handtools and power tools.  Starts devicesto test their performance.  Lubricates and clean parts.  May set up and operate lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.  May initiate purchase order for parts and machines.  May repair electrical equipment.  Keep all equipment, machinery, and building systems in good working order in a timely and clean manner.  Troubleshoot and diagnose problems, remove and repair broken, worn, and improperly working items.

Working Conditions:

Standing stooping, bending, squatting, sitting, walking both inside and outside. Some warm weather conditions, some cold weather conditions depending upon seasons. The job duties require an employee to bend, reach, kneel, and stand for extended periods. The job duties may require an employee to climb ladders. The job duties may require an employee to move heavy objects.

Minimum Qualifications & Education:

High School graduate or equivalent.  Knowledge of electric motors, generators, pumps, pressure systems, water systems and other equipment and systems found in fastener manufacturing facilities.  Knowledge of the servicing and maintenance of simple power, heating and cooling units.  Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the building maintenance trades.  Knowledge of the proper use of chemicals.  Ability to do routine mechanical or electrical maintenance and care for tools and equipment.  Ability to work from sketches, drawings, and blueprints.  Ability to maintain records regarding material, equipment, and repairs.  Ability to work with hand and power tools including, but not limited to drills, saws, wrenches, screwdrivers, grinders, mills, lathes, forklifts, scissor lifts, pallet jacks, belt sanders, portable tool boxes, ladders, and many more.  Heat treat experience and/or knowledge a plus.  Experience working with controllers and recorders a plus.
